OOTD: Airport Chic

En route to Boston for a girls weekend...looking forward to cooler weather and lots of great shopping!

What I'm wearing:
Abercrombie & Fitch denim jacket, Nordy tanks, Citizens of Humanity jeggings, Van Cleef & Arpels inspired necklace, Michael Kors watch (similar style here), Hermes inspired bracelet, Essie Chubby Cheeks nail polish

SATC Prequel

For those of you who just can't let go...it looks like there may be a SATC prequel in the works! Candance Bushnell wrote "The Carrie Diaries" and "Summer in the City" as prequels to her oh-so-famous Sex and the City novel turned TV series turned movie(s). The star line up includes Elizabeth Olson (Carrie), Selena Gomez (Charlotte), Blake Lively (Samantha) and Emma Roberts (Miranda).

Would you watch the younger version? Any ideas on who will be casted as Mr. Big?

Style Me Chic: Wedding Guest

Reader Alicia received a wedding invitation for a fall wedding, sans dress code. She chose a dress and wanted to ensure it would be appropriate for the event, and also get some accesorizing tips. Since the dress is a solid color, I wanted to dress it up to make it fancier for a wedding atmosphere. Below are two ideas I styled for her. Click on any item for more details. One Lovely Blog Award

Late last night I received an email notifying me that I had recieved the One Lovely Blog Award.

Tales From an Unknown Spacecraft had nominated me, but after reviewing his blog I couldn't figure out how on earth he found a peek of chic, since our blogs couldn't be more different. Turns out his friend writes The Fashion Igloo, and she suggested my blog to him - so then it all made sense!

Now that I have that settled - on to the rules:
  1. Thank the person that gave you the award and link back to them
  2. Write seven random facts about yourself
  3. Nominate 15 other bloggers
7 random facts...
  • My eyes are very sensitive to light, so you'll find me wearing sunnies even at dusk
  • If I were on a deserted island, the one thing I'd HAVE TO HAVE is lipgloss
  • Diet coke is my coffee
  • I'm currently learning Vietnamese via Rosetta Stone
  • Up until a few years ago, I never wore the color brown
  • I set 2 alarms for the morning, because I have anxiety about sleeping through the first one
  • I think I was royalty (or a Hollywood celeb, at the very least) in previous life

15 fabulous blogs...

I saw this top on my Neiman Marcus gifts app, and instantly thought: Kourtney Kardashian would totally wear this top! It's perfect for a summer night with a pair of polished shorts and chic flats.

What Not To Wear

A hat and sunglasses - together. Unless you're a celeb, trying to fly under the radar, it just looks over-accessorized. I personally think it's also uncomfortable. While wearing fedoras this summer, I've tried on sunglasses, and it just didn't fit right. Perhaps it's because my sunglasses are oversized. Darcy Rhone (from Something Borrowed & Something Blue) also agrees with my sentiments on this subject.

Megan Fox - only ok because she's trying to be inconspicuous
As with every rule, there are exceptions. The look below is an example of how you can pair the two, and it can work. Even still, I prefer it sans-sunglasses, so as to give more attention to the gorgeous hat!

This chick rocks both accessories well, while attending a [sunny] horse race

You Can't Fake Fashion

Recently a friend was admiring my Damier Azur LV, and asked me if it were real. I was a bit taken aback. Of course it is real!! Which brings me to CFDA's "You Can't Fake Fashion" tote bags. The CFDA has partnered with 50 designers (including Tory Burch, Jason Wu, Marchesa and my fave Olson twins of The Row) to develop a line of canvas bags to raise awareness of counterfeit handbags.

Available exclusively at eBay Fashion Vault, the totes range in price from $35-$150 and all proceeds benefit the CFDA Foundation.

“Counterfeits are a critical issue to CFDA, eBay and the fashion industry at large,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA Executive Director. “We’re excited to collaborate on this important campaign to educate consumers on the dangers of counterfeits and emphasize the importance of original design.”

I am LOVING the outfit that Chrissy Teigen rocked this past week in Miami for Fashion Week Swim. It's so effortlessly chic! What's even better, The Look 4 Less put together the same outfit so people like me can recreate her style. Check it out here.

Bridal Bikinis

Fashion Week Swim 2012 was held in Miami this week - and a new niche of swimwear debuted! Beach Bunny Swimwear (the brand that the Kardashians partnered with for their swimwear line) introduced Beach Bunny Bride. After the wedding, what bride doesn't want to continue basking in attention? Now you can wear specialty swimwear on your honeymoon to let everyone know you're newlyweds!

Here comes the bride, (barely) dressed in white...

What do you think of these suits? Will you buy one for your upcoming nuptials?

A membership fee of $10/month gets you a fabulous box of 4-5 samples each month of the best beauty products on the market. Style Me Chic: Bachelorette Party

Reader Erin is jetting off to Boston next weekend for her bachelorette party! She has already purchased a dress for the big night, but would like ideas on how to accessorize. Erin likes the jewelry from Arden B and the style of Nicole Richie, but not necessarily House of Harlow.

Since the dress is zebra (read: loud) I wanted to balance the look with simple jewelry. Below are some ideas I put together for her, click on the photos for more information.

Pavé Jewelers, a local jewelry shop, makes some absolutely stunning pieces. Several friends’ engagement rings came from this particular company, and I can’t help but drool when I see a new design posted on their Facebook page.

This beauty is an 18-carat white gold criss-cross pavé-set eternity band. With 284 G color hand-set diamonds, the total carat weight is an impressive 2.55 carats.

Brown vs. Black + Gray Suit

When I first decided to write about this topic, I was 100% against men wearing brown shoes with gray suits. In my opinion, gray is a light shade of black, and should therefore be worn with black shoes. However, half way through my research, I discovered that several well-dressed men I know wear this color combo.

As I searched for advice on the web regarding men’s fashion, the overwhelming majority of articles also agreed that brown can be paired with gray. I began observing men’s shoes everywhere I went! It appeared that the guys rocking the brown and gray were some of the more fashion forward ones.

So, here I am to actually promote the act of pairing brown and gray. There is one caveat, if you are wearing a dark gray suit, for the love, please wear black shoes!

Trend: Oversized Watches

This isn't so much a new trend, but it is one that I love! The watch you wear makes a statement about your style. I love big, chunky watches that could pass for a man's watch (my dad recently asked me if the watch I was wearing was a man's watch). An oversized watch is such a statement piece that you can easily get by with minimal other jewelry.

My go to is my Michele; perfectly girly with the 36 diamonds. Most of my jewelry is platinum/white gold/silver, so it goes with what I wear most days.

Next in line is my Michael Kors in yellow gold. I love the shape of the face, in between square and circle. The gold jewelry I do have, I wear mostly in the summer, so what is when I tend to wear this one more.

I have had a soft spot for rose gold since it hit the market; the pink tone is so feminine and chic. I had my eye on a watch for awhile, but held back until Nordy's sent me an email about their anniversary sale (which ironically had a photo of the watch in that very same email!) So this weekend I purchased my very latest, and by far largest, watch to add to my collection. This will be a great transitional watch to wear from summer to fall...I am already envisioning all the outfits I will pair it with!

Smurfette in Couture?!

I bet you never thought you’d see Smurfette wearing couture, huh? I found these photos in the June issue of Harper’s Bazaar and thought they were too fun not to share! If only she was really rocking these outfits in the movie, I might think about snagging a ticket!
