libby. edelman

Those who enjoy Sam Edelman's fabulous shoes will be happy to learn about a new brand: libby. edelman (yes, the period after libby is intentional). As you may have guessed, Libby is Sam's wife and mother to their three children. She always had a love for fashion, and even helps in the design process of his shoes. Finally, she decided to create her own line of footwear, to show the world that mom's can be stylish too!

Over the weekend I came across these fabulous flats that made me gasp when I saw them! Leopard with a pink bow, yes please! Her style is chic, with just the right amount of spunk. I can't wait to wear them and see what is in store for the fall! Best part - her collection is half the price of Sam Edelman's.

Wishlist Wednesday

To change it up from my usual shoes and jewelry wants/needs/can't live withouts, this week's wish is for the Diane von Furstenberg tray I recently saw at Bloomies. This gorgeous tray would be a perfect addition to our home. The bf and I love to host friends and family and this would be a well used piece. Not only beautiful, but practical too. The tray (shown in beet) also comes in olive grove green and tamarind yellow.

Style Me Chic: Mother of the Bride

Reader Bev found the perfect dress for her daughter’s wedding and is now looking for shoes, jewelry and clutch ideas. She is very concerned with making a stylish impression and wants her daughter to feel proud of how she looks. Her biggest concern is whether to pair the dress with basic black and/or silver accessories or to add a pop of color. You can't tell in the photo, but the dress includes shades of purple, green and blue as well.

Bev's favorite color is purple, so I incorporated that into the shoe selection to add that pop she was looking for!

Trend: Tied Up T-shirt

Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of girls wearing shirts tied in knots. Not in DC of course (the lack of fashion in this city is beyond depressing), but in magazines and on blogs I follow. While I welcome the revolving door of fashion throughout past decades, I’m wondering how this trend will incorporate now?

I live by Ashley Olsen’s philosophy, “Never say never - in fashion and in life.” But at this point, I can't envision myself tying up right now. What are your thoughts? Are you buying into this trend?

Fashion Icon: Blake Lively

I have always loved Blake Lively, ever since the first episode I saw of Gossip Girl. When she signed with Chanel in 2010, I think a lot of people were pretty shocked. I’ll agree, I was a bit taken aback that they chose such a young individual. However, Lively has certainly proven herself worthy of the brand, tenfold. Her style and elegance is exactly what prompted Karl Lagerfield himself to invite her to be his date to the 2011 Met Costume Institute Gala.

What makes my admiration for Lively even stronger is that she does not have a stylist. She puts together her outfits, accessories and all, by herself for each event she attends. Summoning her inner fashionista, she has never missed a beat! “I think I became my own stylist by not knowing any better. And once I was told it was time to get one, I thought: This is one of my favorite hobbies! And I’m going to pay someone to steal my hobby from me? That’s a terrible idea!”

Lively graces the cover of July's issue of Glamour, and her spread is awe-inspiring! She epitomizes glamour in every sense of the word and Chanel is lucky to have her!

Versace for H&M

Another fabulous fashion partnership is in the works! Versace announced it's plans to guest design for the Swedish mega-store H&M. Insiders say there will be two collections, designed by Donatella herself. An exact date hasn't been released, but they say it will be sometime in November.

"Versace said it will reinvent some of its classic designs and will feature "the perfect tuxedo" for men, and dresses and accessories for women. The collection will also include homeware products."

Wishlist Wednesday

David Yurman used to be one of my favorite designers, but the past few years I haven't been wearing much of his jewelry. I think it's mostly because it seemed like everyone was wearing the same pieces. However, I've had my eye on this ring for awhile, and have yet to see anyone else wearing it. I love it because it doesn't scream DY, and it's basic enough that it won't go out of style.

BDIB: Neons and Neutrals

This assignment, for Bloggers Do It Better, is focused on pairing neons and neutrals together. For most people, myself included, just the word neon is scary! I flashback to the 80's and envision myself with crimped hair and a NKOTB t-shirt tied in a knot, eek!

Now for a more updated look, perhaps more "bright" than "neon," but nevertheless paired with a neutral.

What I'm wearing:
H&M blazer, Nordstrom tank, Seven for all Mankind denim, Dogeared necklace, Michael Kors watch (similar style here), VS bracelet

Trend: Fedoras

Fedoras are another hot summer accessory that shouldn’t be overlooked. What’s great is that both guys and girls can rock this look! For warmer months, it’s best to buy one that is made of straw or linen, so that you won’t overheat.

How you position the hat on your head is another important aspect. Ensure that it sits level and snug, you don’t want to look like Charlie Chaplin with a hat positioned on top of your head. Let's also talk about tilting. A slight tilt to the left or right is fine. However, please do not tilt it down so that it covers your face. We’re not hip hop artists here, we’re fashionistas!

There are a lot of different cuts of fedoras, so be sure to try it on first to confirm a good look. Check out what celebs are wearing this trend, and which brands I suggest.

Style Me Chic: Handbags

Introducing Style Me Chic – a new feature on my blog where readers can email me for fashion advice. Whether you’re looking for an outfit for a specific event, a new handbag or pair of shoes, email me your requirements and I will write a post with my recommendations, just for you!

Reader Courtney is looking for a new handbag. After reviewing my recent posts on Louis Vuitton, she can’t justify spending that amount of money on a bag that is predominately canvas, and is looking for alternatives. Her requirements include a classic style in either black or brown. Since she is not one to change her bag often, she wants something that can be worn every day. Courtney likes being able to carry her purse on her shoulder, but would also like to carry it by hand sometimes as well.

I found a lot of great options, and while most of the photos are of black bags, some of them also come in brown. Click on the image for more information or to purchase.
